About Us
Honoring Kota's Legacy Through Every Life We Save.

Kota's Kabana was founded in loving memory of our Bernese Mountain Dog, Kota, who passed away in 2023. His gentle spirit and unconditional love inspired us to create a place where vulnerable dogs could find safety, care, and a second chance at life.
Our rescue officially began in February 2026 after we came across a heartbreaking Facebook post about a mother dog and her eight puppies who had been locked inside a shed and left to die north of San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur. With 10,000 square meters of land available, we knew we had to help. We rescued the entire family and immediately began building secure fencing and shelters to provide them with a safe place to recover.
Only days later, another litter of eight puppies arrived from Playa Perla, near Mulegé. Overnight, our rescue was caring for sixteen puppies, each one deserving of a brighter future.
Soon after, we rescued Flaco, an adult dog found wandering the streets of Cerritos. Today, Flaco is living in foster care in Barrhead, Alberta, Canada, while we continue searching for his forever home.
During our first season, eight of the puppies were transported by us to Canada, where they found loving families. The remaining litter from Playa Perla was entrusted to our trusted rescue partners, Cerritos Beach Dogs and Alfie's Safe Haven, organizations we continue to work closely with to save more lives together.
Our commitment to rescue did not begin with Kota's Kabana. Over the past three years, we have fostered numerous dogs for Alfie's Safe Haven and helped transport many rescue dogs from Baja California Sur to Canada, giving them the opportunity to find permanent, loving homes.
We divide our time between Mexico, where we live from November through May, and Canada during the summer months. We are currently establishing a Canadian non-profit organization, K&M Legacies, which will support two rescue initiatives: Kota's Kabana in Mexico and Max's Mission in Canada, a project currently in development.
Every Rescue Begins with Love.
