Nova and Her Puppies: From Abandoned to Loved
The story behind Nova and her eight puppies is one of survival, compassion, and second chances.
Nova and her eight puppies, who were only three weeks old, were locked inside a shed on an abandoned property in Caduaño, Baja California Sur. They had been left without food or water and were slowly being left to die.
A woman who was walking her dog nearby heard the puppies crying. She broke the lock on the shed and rescued Nova and all eight puppies. Nova was severely underweight, and the puppies were covered in mud and in very poor condition.
The woman could not keep them all, so she posted on Facebook asking for help. We saw her post, reached out, and went to pick up Nova and her puppies. They were immediately taken to the veterinarian for evaluation and treatment.
Nova was diagnosed with Ehrlichia and was in extremely poor health. One of the puppies, Bo, also contracted Parvo, and we came very close to losing him. Thankfully, the incredible team at VetMart in Todos Santos was able to save his life.
Over the following months, Nova and the puppies made numerous trips to the veterinarian. With medical care, proper nutrition, and lots of love, they slowly became healthy, happy dogs ready for their next chapter.
The puppies were named Indy (Beth), Bo (Boss), Fierra, Rip, Rocky, Vida (Missy), Tater, and Nia (Tierra).
Tater stayed in Mexico and was adopted by a loving family in San José del Cabo. The rest of the puppies were either flown or driven to Canada by us, where they were eventually adopted into loving homes.
Nova and Indy were adopted by us personally, and they became part of our family.
We also have Ducati, another Parvo survivor from Cortez Rescue, and we are currently fostering Flaco while we continue looking for his forever home.
Nia, Bo, Rocky, Rip, and Fierra all found wonderful homes in Alberta, Canada.
And then came a beautiful twist in the story.
Vida was flown to Toronto, Canada, where she was reunited with the very woman who had originally rescued her and her family from the shed. What began as a desperate rescue became a lifelong friendship, and she has since become a dear friend of ours.
Today, Nova and all eight puppies are safe, loved, and living in their forever homes.
Another Litter, Another Chance
While helping Nova and her puppies, another litter came to our attention.
A group of puppies had been abandoned on a beach in Playa Perla, near Mulegé. The people who found them reached out for help through Facebook. We connected with them, and they drove approximately eight hours to bring the puppies to us.
Once they arrived, the puppies were taken to the veterinarian, vaccinated, treated, and prepared for adoption.
Because we had to return to Canada in May and did not have enough time to find homes for all of them ourselves, the puppies were transferred to Cerritos Beach Dogs, where they could continue their journey toward adoption.
The last time we spoke with the rescue, we were told that most of the puppies had found homes, while a couple were still waiting.
These stories are a reminder of why rescue matters.
Behind every dog is a story. Some begin with abandonment, neglect, or unimaginable circumstances. But with a little help, medical care, patience, and love, their stories can have a very different ending.
From a locked shed to loving homes — Nova and her puppies are proof that second chances can change everything.

Boss now goes by Bo! 💕🐾
We’re happy to share that Bo is thriving in his new home and has formed a wonderful bond with his new human. His days are filled with all the things a happy pup could ask for—doggy daycare adventures, cozy afternoon naps, evening strolls, and even a little sunbathing.
Bo has settled beautifully into his new life and is absolutely living the doggy dream. Seeing him happy, loved, and flourishing is exactly what rescue is all about.
Rocky’s New Adventure Begins!
Rocky is settling into his forever home and taking his new role as a beloved family member very seriously! From exploring his surroundings to learning all the routines of home life, he is soaking up every moment with his new family.
He’s been busy getting to know his humans, making new memories, and discovering all the exciting things that come with having a place to call his own. Whether it’s cuddle time, playtime, or simply following his family around to see what they’re up to, Rocky is embracing this new chapter with his happy-go-lucky personality.
One of our favorite things about rescue is watching these moments unfold—the beginning of a lifetime of love, adventures, and companionship. Seeing Rocky settle in and build bonds with his family reminds us why every mile, every foster home, and every volunteer effort is worth it.
We can’t wait to watch Rocky grow alongside his new family and hear about all the adventures that lie ahead.
Congratulations, Rocky! Your forever story is just beginning.

VIDA (aka Missy) HAS ARRIVED HOME!
After an amazing journey spanning thousands of kilometers, Vida has officially arrived at her forever home and is settling in beautifully.
This rescue mission truly took a village. We are beyond grateful to everyone who played a part in helping this sweet girl reach her destination.
A very special thank you goes to my dear friend Lori, who lovingly escorted Vida on the final leg of her journey. We couldn’t have done it without your dedication and support.
As if travel days aren’t exciting enough, Vida’s new family experienced a flat tire on their way to the airport! Thankfully, CAA came to the rescue and got them safely back on the road so they could make it in time to welcome their newest family member home.
Now, Missy is where she was always meant to be — surrounded by love, comfort, and the promise of a wonderful future.
Thank you to everyone who shared, supported, transported, donated, cheered her on, and believed in her journey. This is why we do what we do.
Happy life, sweet Vida. Your next chapter starts now!
